Who we are

Spinae Vitae Physical Therapy is an orthopedic out-patient practice owned and operated by Ela Wierzchon-Mroz, PT,DIP MDT. Spinae Vitae Physical Therapy is the only clinic in the Chicagoland area that has been approved by the McKenzie Institute International as Certified McKenzie Clinic. We specialize in reliable assessment strategies of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy(MDT) also known as McKenzie Method, identifying the best treatment solution with the power to control pain and restore function. This approach, recommended as the leading choice for spinal conditions worldwide, empowers patients to manage their own symptoms, reducing dependency on medical intervention.

What is MDT – McKenzie Method

  • McKenzie  Method is a comprehensive approach to the spine and extremities conditions based on sound principles and fundamentals that when understood and followed accordingly are very successful. A success rate of 85-97% has been reported in just a few visits.
  • Most low back pain or joint pain is “mechanical” in origin, meaning that an applied force caused pain. A basic philosophy of McKenzie’s theory is that the reverse force can abolish the pain and restore the function.
  • McKenzie credits the patient’s ability to learn the principles and empowers them to be in control of their own symptom management, which can reduce dependancy on medical intervention.
  • MDT promotes the body’s potential to heal itself without medication, heat, cold, ultrasound, needles, surgery or  a force dependent on the practitioner.
  • MDT addresses a growing demand from patients and third party payers for professional rehabilitation services that develop the patient’s self-treatment skills in a cost-effective manner.

Who benefits from MDT – Anyone with

  • Neck pain with or without arm pain or numbness
  • Back pain with or without leg pain or numbness
  • Pain arising from joints or muscles
  • Patients who have failed to improve with previous treatment
  • Patients who are motivated to participate in their own recovery.
